Innovative ways of incorporating proteins (Recipe demonstration)

Bariatric Surgery Support Group Meeting

4th of May 2019

Venue: Namaha Hospital

Theme: Innovative ways of incorporating proteins (Recipe demonstration)

Our dieticians Ms. MiloniSanchetiand Ms. Mariam Lakdawala planned few easy to prepare recipes using good quality carbohydrates like oat flakes and maize granules. They demonstrated enriching these recipes with protein by adding unflavoured protein powder. The idea behind doing this was simply getting our patients consume unflavoured protein powder hidden in recipes, rather than pushing them to consume more amounts of flavoured proteins which they are usually not able to tolerate post bariatric surgery.

The tasting session bought us a lot of appreciation as patients loved the taste of all the recipes prepared. List of ingredients and method of recipe preparation was given out during the tasting session.

A short discussion on the importance of having the additional protein supplementation post-surgery, increased protein requirements with exercise and various food sources rich in proteins followed.

Apart from sharing each other’s weight loss journey and hearing about each other’s fitness secret, our patients took with them an important message that maintaining a good diet is of utmost importance post bariatric surgery!
